Our client in Harley Gardens in Chelsea, SW10, had removed the old wooden staircase handrail that had been in their home.
They wanted us to create a unique design for them – a vertical rounded rectangle with half-circles at the top and bottom.
A design like that, as simple as it may appear, is not available off-the-shelf, so we created them ourselves in the workshop, before attending the premises for installation.
Before commencing work on-site, all the stairs were covered over to protect them during the installation.
The wooden stringers were drilled to take the posts before using kemfix to secure them in place.
A different design was used for the newel posts at the top and bottom of the staircase, to provide a a contrasting look.
Finally, a half-round convex bar with a feathered edge was welded to the top of the bars and posts, serving as the handrail.
